Sean Young Signs 1st Professional Contract
Sean Young, 19, has signed his first professional contract with Canadian Premier Leagues Pacific FC.
Young spent two seasons with the Highlanders Residency program, formerly Pacific Elite Soccer Institute, as well as competing with the Highlanders 1st team in USL League Two. Before his time at Highlanders, the midfielder spent time with the Vancouver Island Wave of the BC Soccer Premier League. His work rate and competitiveness in the middle of the field has never gone unnoticed by the Highlanders coaching staff.
“Sean is an outstanding player, who competed everyday in our programs to improve himself. He has very good abilities high soccer IQ,” stated Highlanders Head Coach and Managing Director Thomas Niendorf. “We are very proud to see him move on to a professional environment where he can continue to grow and develop.”
Young spent his 2018 season with the Highlanders Reserve squad in the Pacific Coast Soccer League. He finished the season with a goal and helped lead the team to a 6-4-2 record, good enough for second in their division. In 2019, Young led the midfield and helped the Highlanders to a 6-7-1 record in USL League Two. In 2019, Young also lifted the Jackson Cup in the Vancouver Island Soccer League with the Thomas Niendorf-coached Westcastle United.
Young joins Pacific FC as they begin their quest for the Canadian Premier League Championship. The competition will begin in PEI, behind closed doors in a sequestered environment at UPEI Alumni Field in Charlottetown. All matches will be broadcast live via the Canadian Premier League's media partner OneSoccer.
