Highlanders Sign Walter and Petrizzi
VICTORIA, B.C. – Victoria Highlanders FC are pleased to announce the signings of Jonathan Walter and Alec-Michael Petrizzi, Pending League and Federation Approval. The two attacking midfielders are the latest players to join Thomas Niendorf’s 2019 USL League Two squad.
“Both of these players are technically gifted players, with a very good understanding of the game. They will give our group very good technical abilities,” added Niendorf. “Jonathan is a young player but has proved himself in the Vancouver Island Soccer League and a good left foot in-between-the-lines player. We are looking forward to using his technical abilities to our goal.”
Jonathan Walter was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, growing up playing soccer for his hometown club Calgary Foothills SC. He represented the nation at the U-15 level at the age of 14 after being scouted at an identification camp in Burnaby by Canada youth coach Ante Jazic. The 17-year-old is the latest addition from Niendorf’s Westcastle United side in the Vancouver Island Soccer League’s (VISL) Division One. The 2019 VISL season saw the midfielder chip in with six goals on the season and help the squad capture the Sir John Jackson Cup.
Alec-Michael Petrizzi, born in Dunedin, Florida, joins the Highlanders after successful spells with American side Boca Raton FC and American University side Massachusetts Minutemen. The 20-year-old midfielder grew up playing for the Oxbridge Academy where he earned the All-State honours and was the 2014-15 player of the year for his side while also being named to the TopDrawerSoccer Florida All-Star team in the very same year. Petrizzi also represented his state from 2013-2015.
Both players are the latest additions to join the black and gold from Niendorf’s Pacific Elite Soccer Institute.
Welcome to the capital, Jonathan and Alec-Michael!
