Highlanders Announcement
Dear volunteers, fans, community-sponsors and players
After serious deliberation and with much regret, Victoria Highlanders has decided it will not operate a Women’s and Men’s team in League1BC. Despite our best efforts over the past 2-months we have been unable to reach an agreement with the new owners of League1BC that would allow us to carry on the Victoria Highlanders and still maintain our mission of providing a volunteer driven, not-for-profit community team for women and men looking to take their next step in soccer.
We’ve been enthusiastic supporters of this level of soccer development since the Highlanders inception, and together with our large core of volunteers strived to provide opportunities for soccer players, referees, coaches and the great soccer community in Victoria.
The Highlanders are proud of the many on-field successes we have had over the years but our greatest satisfaction has come from our connections with our community and seeing the many players and coaches who have gone on to successful careers in University or College and in various pro leagues in Canada and beyond.
We want to sincerely thank our amazing family of volunteers, sponsors, partners, fans, coaches and players along with the like-minded owners that went before us and the owners and operators of the teams and leagues we have played in over the years. We reserve special thanks for our two volunteer Head Coaches Steve Simonson and Neil Sedgewick and our Operations Manager Jeremy Dillon; without their significant contributions our League1BC seasons would not have been possible.
The Division 1 Highlanders FC men’s team and Residency program will continue under the committed stewardship of Thomas Niendorf.
Many thanks, Brett and PJ Large.
