VICTORIA, BC – Victoria Highlanders FC host Lane United FC in the first match-up of the Highlanders’ 2017 Premier Development League (PDL) season, May 14 at 2:00 p.m. PST at the University of Victoria’s Centennial Stadium.
The Highlanders will be looking to start the season on the front foot after missing out on the PDL postseason in 2016, while Lane United will be searching for their first win of the season after playing to a 2-2 draw with expansion club TSS Rovers at Swangard Stadium on Friday night. Lane’s duo of Jordan Jones and Vicente Mora Espinosa registered goals for the visiting United. Between the woodwork, Ben Willis made three saves to earn his side the point.
Like their opponents, the new-look Highlanders will take to the pitch at Centennial Stadium in Victoria eager to set things off on a positive note. The team features a revamped squad that also includes returning players Callum Montgomery on the back line, as well as veteran striker Blair Sturrock. In net, University of Guelph ‘keeper Simon Norgrove returns healthy and will battle with Yuichiro Hayami and recent signing Ty Venhola for starting duties throughout the 14-game regular season.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how we do against a high standard of competition in Lane United,” Highlanders head coach Dave Dew stated. “I am confident that we will compete and do well on Sunday.”
